Your daughter is nine, nearly ten, and taller than half her class. The frock you ordered last Eid in 7-8 years already sits above her knee. You open a shopping app, type "frock design for 10 years girl", and get a wall of photos with no sizes listed, no fabric named, and no way to tell whether any of it would actually fit her.
This guide covers which size band to pick, how to check it at home in two minutes, which fabric survives a Pakistani summer, and what to look at before you order.
Choosing a frock design for 10 years girl: the short answer
For most ten year olds in Pakistan, order the 9-10 years size. If your daughter is taller than average, or you want the frock to last into next summer, go up to 11-12 years. Girls gain roughly 5 to 6 cm of height a year at this age, so a slightly long frock gets worn two seasons while a slightly short one gets worn once. For daytime wear choose lawn cotton. For Eid and weddings, look for real thread embroidery rather than a printed pattern.
Why sizing gets harder at ten
Up to about seven, girls are roughly one shape and age-based sizing works. From eight onwards they stop being uniform. Two ten year olds in the same class can differ by 10 cm in height and a full size in chest.
Fit preference changes too. A four year old will wear anything loose. A ten year old notices when a frock is short, tight at the armhole, or babyish in print — and a frock she refuses to wear is a total loss, not a small one.
Length is the measurement that decides it. Chest and waist usually have enough ease built in. Hem length is what sends a frock to the back of the cupboard.
How to check the size at home
You do not need a tailor. A measuring tape and a wall will do.
- Height. Stand her against a wall without shoes, heels together. Mark the top of her head, then measure floor to mark.
- Chest. Measure around the fullest part, tape flat and level under the arms. Do not pull tight.
- The length she likes. Take a frock she already wears happily and measure from the shoulder seam to the hem. That number tells you more than any chart.
Then compare against the sizes below rather than assuming her age is her size. Between two bands, take the larger one — a frock can be shortened, it cannot be lengthened.
The size bands we make
Our frocks are labelled by age, in these bands. The range skips from 5-6 to 7-8 and again from 9-10 to 11-12, which is standard in Pakistani kidswear.
| Size band | Usually suits |
|---|---|
| 2-3 Years | Toddlers |
| 3-4 Years | Pre-school |
| 4-5 Years | Nursery and KG |
| 5-6 Years | Early primary |
| 7-8 Years | Middle primary |
| 9-10 Years | The standard fit for a ten year old |
| 11-12 Years | Tall ten year olds, or buying ahead |
We size by age rather than publishing garment measurements, so if your daughter sits between bands or is unusually tall or slim, message us with her height before ordering and we will tell you which band to take.
Which fabric works in Pakistan
By ten, girls are in school most of the day and out in the evening. The fabric has to survive both.
Lawn cotton is the standard choice for good reason. It is light, breathes in Lahore and Karachi heat, takes embroidery cleanly, and washes without losing shape. It also behaves after a long function — it does not cling the way polyester does once a child has been running about.
Polyester and polyester blends photograph well and hold a stiff flare, which is why so many party frocks use them. The trade-off is real: they trap heat, and in a Pakistani summer a child in polyester is uncomfortable within the hour. Workable for a short indoor evening function, not for a full day.
Our guide to the best kids summer clothes in Pakistan compares how each fabric behaves in heat.
Embroidered or printed: what you are paying for
In a product photo the two look similar. In person they do not.
Thread embroidery is stitched into the fabric. You can feel the raised thread, see it from the reverse side, and it holds through washing. It costs more because it takes machine time.
Printed designs sit on the surface. Lighter, cheaper, and perfectly good for everyday wear — but the print can fade or crack after repeated washing, particularly if dried in direct sun.
For Eid, a mehndi or a wedding, embroidery earns the difference. For school holidays and family visits, a good printed lawn frock does the job for less.

Before you place the order
- Measure her height this week, not from memory
- Check shoulder-to-hem length against a frock she already wears
- Confirm the fabric is named on the product page — if it is not stated, ask
- Check which sizes are actually in stock, not just listed
- Read the exchange policy before ordering, not after
Frequently asked questions
What size frock should I order for a 10 year old girl?
Order 9-10 years for an average-height ten year old. If she is taller than her classmates, or you want the frock to last into next season, take 11-12 years. Length runs out before width at this age, so sizing up is the safer mistake to make.
Is lawn cotton suitable for winter?
Lawn is a summer-weight fabric. In winter it works as a layer under a cardigan or jacket for indoor functions, but on its own it will not be warm enough from December to February across most of Pakistan.
How should an embroidered frock be washed?
Wash cold, inside out, on a gentle cycle or by hand, and dry in shade rather than direct sunlight. Sun fades both thread colour and fabric, and it is the most common reason an embroidered frock looks old after one season.
Do frock sizes run the same across Pakistani brands?
No. A 9-10 years frock from one brand can differ by several centimetres from another. This is why measuring matters more than remembering what size fitted last time. Always check the brand's own sizing.
What if the size I order does not fit?
Message us before you order if you are unsure and we will advise on the band. If a frock arrives and the fit is wrong, contact us with your order number and keep it unworn with tags attached while we sort it out.
The practical takeaway
Measure her height, compare it to the bands rather than trusting her age, and size up if she falls between two. Choose lawn cotton for anything she will wear during the day, and pay for real embroidery only when the occasion justifies it.
You can see which sizes are in stock across our frocks collection. If you are stuck between two sizes, send us her height on WhatsApp and we will tell you which one to order.
